Writing a LinkedIn post with ChatGPT (and why it shows)

Uncalibrated ChatGPT produces generic content. On LinkedIn, posts rooted in a lived experience hit a median of 35 likes — well above the pack.

ChatGPT writes fast. But ChatGPT writes like everyone else — and on LinkedIn, that's exactly the problem.

In short

→ A generic prompt produces a generic post: smooth, polished, interchangeable. → Across our corpus of 516,000 posts, content rooted in a lived experience hits a median of 35 likes — among the highest levels we measured. → LinkedIn doesn't algorithmically penalize AI content. The real risk: generic posts don't hold attention, so no dwell time, so no reach. → The fix isn't to avoid AI — it's to feed it your substance: your story, your numbers, your voice. → LinkPost generates from an engine calibrated across 27 personal style factors, so posts sound like you.

Why it's obvious in two seconds

There's a recognizable signature in default ChatGPT posts:

→ Well-balanced sentences with no friction or edge. → No dated anecdote, no number you personally observed in the wild. → A three-block symmetric structure, like a school essay. → Corporate vocabulary that rings hollow: "exploring new perspectives," "navigating uncertainty," "catalyzing transformation."

This isn't an algorithm problem. LinkedIn has no declared AI content detector and doesn't penalize generated posts. The real problem: generic content doesn't hold attention. Without attention, no dwell time. Without dwell time, the algorithm buries the post.

The core issue: AI doesn't know your story

Across the 516,000 posts analyzed in our LinkPost corpus, posts with a lived experience or personal anecdote consistently land at the top of engagement medians.

This isn't a cultural trend — it's an engagement signal. A real story creates friction, identification, the feeling of "I would have said the same thing." A generic ChatGPT post creates none of that.

And that's precisely what AI can't give you: your substance. The meeting that went sideways, the number that surprised you, the outcome you didn't anticipate. Without that material, AI produces something that looks like a post but triggers nothing.

How to use ChatGPT for LinkedIn the right way

The question isn't "ChatGPT or not" — it's "what are you feeding it."

A prompt that actually works gives AI:

→ A real story in 3-4 lines: the situation, the tension, the resolution or the lesson. → A number you personally observed: a client result, a metric from your own posts, a before/after you can measure. → Your usual voice: direct, wry, understated, conversational. → 2-3 examples of your past posts that performed well — so AI mimics your structure, not its own.

With that material, ChatGPT becomes a formatting assistant. Without it, it generates polished noise.

The perfect prompt guide for LinkedIn breaks down the full structure if you want to go deeper.

What LinkPost adds on top

The manual approach works, but it has a ceiling: you have to re-calibrate every session, every tool, every conversation.

LinkPost generates from an engine calibrated across 300+ factors analyzed on more than 1 million posts, with 27 factors specific to your style: your vocabulary, your density, your relationship to lists, your formality level, the tactics that work in your post history. Generated posts sound like you — not like a template.

And you can trigger this directly from ChatGPT or Claude via the MCP integration, without switching interfaces.

The AI post generator is free to try.

What to do, concretely

→ Start by writing your raw substance: the anecdote, the number, the tension. Five lines, no filter. → Give that substance to ChatGPT with 2-3 examples of your best posts. → Push back if the result is too smooth: "make this more direct, cut the metaphors, break it into short sentences." → Check the hook. In the top 1% of viral posts, 80% have a strong hook and 61% include a concrete proof point in the first 200 characters. If yours opens with a generality, rewrite it. → Run the draft through LinkPost to check against 300+ factors before you publish.

AI is a formatting tool, not a creation tool. The creation is always yours.

Methodological note: the median figures cited come from the observational LinkPost study (516,144 posts, 2020-2026, 62% French-language content). These are correlations, not proven causality. Sample bias is possible. Full methodology in the complete playbook.
