On LinkedIn, early engagement velocity is decisive: commenting within the first 10 minutes generates 7× more impressions than after 24 hours.

Yes, the first 60 minutes matter more than everything else combined. LinkedIn runs your post through an early filter — if engagement signals arrive fast, the algorithm amplifies. If not, it buries.

Why the algorithm is obsessed with speed

LinkedIn doesn't rank posts in chronological order. It aims to maximize time spent on the platform. Its method: distribute each post to a small sample, measure reactions (dwell time, reactions, comments), then decide — amplify or stop.

This early filtering mechanism explains why two posts of equivalent quality can reach radically different audiences depending on their engagement dynamics in the first few hours. It's not random — it's a power law. Posts that take off fast go very far; the rest plateau.

This is what the analysis of 516,000 LinkedIn posts underpinning our playbook shows.

What the data says about comment velocity

We analyzed 909,560 comments via LinkHub, representing 118 million tracked impressions. The correlation between comment delay and reach is sharp:

From the first quarter-hour to the next day, that's a 7× gap in median impressions. Commenting at the right time on the right posts is a real visibility strategy — not a minor detail.

Publish time: choosing the right window

The time you publish directly influences your initial velocity. Across the corpus of 359,000 posts measured over 180 days:

→ Morning 7–10am CET: median of 16 likes — the most competitive slot, not the best performing → Noon CET (~12:00 UTC): median of 25 likes — the best observed window

The paradox is counterintuitive: in the morning, everyone publishes at the same time, which drowns your velocity in noise. At noon, less competing content captures your audience's attention, and the signals from your first readers carry more weight in the initial filter.

How to activate velocity from the moment you publish

Knowing the mechanism isn't enough. Here's what concretely works:

→ Publish in the right time window — noon CET for French-speaking profiles, based on the data above → Reply to the first comments within 20 minutes — each reply relaunches the engagement signal → Start commenting on a few posts in your niche just before you publish — reciprocal engagement is real on LinkedIn → Don't publish and disappear — being present during the hour after publishing is the most direct lever on your velocity → Avoid ultra-competitive slots — if everyone posts between 7 and 9am, your signals drown in the crowd

What the LinkedIn algorithm does with these signals

Early velocity doesn't act alone. LinkedIn observes in parallel: dwell time (how long someone reads your post), reactions, comments, reshares. A post that combines a strong hook (high dwell time) with fast comments triggers amplification. A post with a great hook but zero interaction in the first few hours stays in low orbit.

That's why content quality and managing your launch window aren't two separate topics — they reinforce each other.

What to do before and after you publish

→ Use the Post Analyzer to make sure your hook, structure, and tactics are solid before hitting publish → Schedule publication during a low-competition slot (skip the "Tuesday 9am" myth — the data doesn't back it up) → Be ready to reply to comments within the first 20 minutes → Comment on two or three posts in your niche just before publishing yours
